Mixed media painting, colors to fight gloom, des couleurs pour combattre la tristesse

I did this painting during the first covid lockdown inspired by Bonnard orange nude and a photo of his wife Marthe and driven by the need to put some form of joy in difficult days.

Marthe Bonnard was a gloomy woman, sick probably with tuberculosis, the covid of those times. She spent much time in her bath, fighting depression and probably fever too. Pierre Bonnard did a lot of paintings of her radiating with colors and very often nude. It did not improve her mood but maybe it helped Bonnard to cope with the difficult personality of the woman he cherished. And indeed it offered to the world a treasure of wonderful paintings.
