The best way from one point to another is a straight line. But I forget that golden rule as soon as I begin to paint.
Io, to seduce this beautiful woman, Jupiter morphed in a cloud. Of course, it makes Jupiter’s wife, Juno, furious. To protect Io, Jupiter transformed her in a cow. Juno saw through the ruse and asked to be given the cow as a present. Jupiter agrees for “la paix des ménages”. Juno ill treats Io. Io flees,a long and painful journey. Jupiter makes her human again and of course she has children with him and her progeny has a bright destiny.
I made a few paintings in the kiss series about Jupiter metamorphosis. The cloud was a very tempting challenge, especially since the caraveggio painting is an absolute masterpiece as far as classical painting is concerned.
I made a first version, mostly blue, and I did not like it. I made a sketch for another version and forgot about it.
But, of course, having already lost much time in the implementation of my clearcut, straight forward program for the 6 first months of 2026, making detours. I rediscovered this sketch which led to a new one.
A new one with a detour in the detour. I had a very precise sketch with clear instructions. One was “yellow background indeed”. Driven by a ridiculous impulse, I prepared a blue background. It took me quite some time. As soon as it was finished, I realized it was a stupid idea.
